Berta Marquez

Berta Marquez was a beloved member of the LGBTQ Mormon community who inspired and touched the lives of so many. Her loss yesterday will sadden all who knew and loved her.

The Affirmation Executive Committee, Board, and Executive Director offer our love, condolences and support to Berta’s spouse, Kathy Carlston, and to Berta’s and Kathy’s families.

We remember with affection the calm, peaceful way that Berta reached out to others, her commitment to the poor and disfranchised, and how she opened her heart and her home to so many in need. We recognize that many will grieve and feel demoralized by the unexpected loss of someone so many of us looked to for support. In times of loss, it is important that no member of our community grieve alone. We encourage all who knew her to reach out to others. Reach out to someone else who also knew and loved her.
