On Sunday, September 12, 2021, Affirmation Venezuela held its first quarterly film forum. The aim of his activity is to raise awareness of, educate, and discuss different issues that concern our community that as reflected by popular films. On this occasion, the film selected was by renowned American director and writer, Joel Edgerton, titled Boy Erased (2018), starring Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe. The film masterfully depicts the true story of activity Garrard Conley, who was subjected to conversion pseudotherapies to “cure” his homosexuality, showing the immense challenges that millions of LGBTQ youth and teens around the world continue to face within their religious communities.
This activity was of special significance with the addition of new younger members of Affirmation Venezuela and the recent commemoration of World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10. Suicide remains a global scourge that threatens the beautiful and valuable lives of many LGBTQ youth who are beloved children of our Heavenly Father and were created to love, be loved, and to shine. Affirmation will continue to raise its voice in Venezuela and in all countries where we are organized as a space of safety, love, and hope. We join the millions of voices and hands required to bring necessary changes and to reflect the love of our Heavenly Father to the world.
